This October, Johnson County takes center stage in the world of Old-Time and Bluegrass music as The Kody Norris Show presents the 100th Anniversary of the Mountain City Fiddlers’ Convention.

What began in 1925 as a gathering of local musicians has since been called a “watershed moment” in the birth of country music. Now, a century later, Mountain City proudly welcomes visitors from near and far to celebrate this living legacy.

The two-day convention will feature concerts, competitions, workshops, and special events that honor the roots of Appalachian music while showcasing the next generation of talent. Please note, the competition will be held outside this year, so plan accordingly.  In case of inclement weather, the event may be moved indoors.

Highlights include:

  • Friday, October 3 – A community mural unveiling, an anniversary reception, and an unforgettable opening night of concerts featuring Pete Denahy (Australia), Wyatt Ellis Band, and The Kody Norris Show. FREE ADMISSION

  • Saturday, October 4 – Competition day! Emerging musicians in Old-Time and Bluegrass categories take the stage for a chance at over $14,500 in prizes, including a 1925 $20 gold piece for the Grand Fiddle-off Champion (valued at $3,000) and a custom Jason Barie fiddle for the First Runner-up. Registration begins at 8:00am. FREE ADMISSION

  • Saturday afternoon features performances by Pete Denahy, the Tennessee Bluegrass Band, and bluegrass legend Larry Sparks. FREE Workshops for Fiddle, Bango and Clogging enthusiasts will be held during the afternoon in Heritage Hall Theatre.

Admission is FREE for all spectators—bring your own chairs and settle in for a weekend of world-class music. Food trucks, local eateries, and commemorative Mountain City Fiddlers' Convention merchandise will be available both days.

Pick up a special re-release (vinyl or CD) of the original 1925 "A Fiddlers’ Convention in Mountain City" album.  Get your Mountain City Fiddlers' Convention merch including an exclusive 100th Anniversary Souvenir Poster!
