For the past 28 years, the Northeast Tennessee Tourism Association has recognized exceptional accomplishments in the tourism industry through its annual Pinnacle Awards program. This year, 107 nominations were received, including six from the Johnson County Tourism Office.
At the 2025 Pinnacle Awards luncheon, hosted by Tennessee Hills in Bristol, Johnson County was honored with awards for Best Rack Card for Visit Mountain City, TN; Best Long Video for Copperhead Road Landmark; and Attraction of the Year for the Copperhead Road Landmark.
Approximately 28,000 Visit Mountain City, TN rack cards have been distributed to over 114 locations across the Tri-Cities region, as well as regional Welcome Centers and Rest Areas. A digital version of the rack card is available for download at VisitMountainCityTN.com.
The Copperhead Road Landmark in Butler continues to gain popularity as a key attraction in Johnson County and will feature prominently at the new Tennessee Hills location near Copperhead Hollow Road. Tim White, a Bluegrass musician and the artist who created the mural on the Copperhead Road Landmark car, and Jonathan Fields of RIPL Creative joined Johnson County Mayor Larry Potter and Johnson County Tourism Coordinator Sheila Caldwell to receive the awards and acknowledge the recognition for Johnson County.
The Rack Card project and Copperhead Road Landmark were funded by grants from the Tennessee Department of Tourism Development. This marks the third consecutive year that Johnson County Tourism has been acknowledged for its efforts in promoting local venues and festivals. In 2023, the Johnson County Tourism Office received awards for Festival of the Year for the Mountain City Sunflower Festival, and in 2024, the county won Event of the Year and Best Marketing Campaign for Christmas on Main on behalf of the Johnson County Chamber of Commerce.
