Today, we celebrated the official groundbreaking of the Doe Mountain Recreation Area Sportsman Complex—a major $4.1 million investment in outdoor recreation and the future of Johnson County!
This project will create new recreational opportunities for residents and visitors while supporting continued tourism and economic growth throughout our community.
We sincerely appreciate TWRA for its assistance in securing funding, along with the valuable support and partnerships of TDEC, Tennessee Tourism, Doe Mountain Recreation Area, and everyone who helped make this project possible.
We also extend our congratulations to Bob Stout Construction on securing the bid for the Phase One infrastructure work. We are especially pleased to see a local Johnson County company selected for this work. Keeping project dollars within our community helps support local workers, local families, and continued economic growth right here in Johnson County.
Today’s groundbreaking marks the beginning of another important chapter for Doe Mountain and Johnson County. We look forward to seeing construction begin and this exciting project take shape!

During the day, please visit our local tourism sites including Doe Mountain Recreation Area, Watauga Lake, Museum of Butler TN, Music Mural Mile in Mountain City, Johnson County Center for the Arts or take an adventurous ride along The Snake in Shady Valley. Join us at 5:00pm for the second night of the Copperhead Road Music Fest.

While visiting the newly unveiled landmark and attending the unveiling ceremony are free, the Copperhead Road Music Fest requires tickets due to limited seating. Tables for four (4) can be reserved for $60, or individual open-seating tickets are available for $15 each. Tickets are sold separately for Friday and Saturday night concerts, with the Sunday performance being free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase during both evenings. Music fest attendees will receive a special Copperhead Road souvenir, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Museum of Butler TN in recognition of the 75th anniversary of the "town that wouldn't drown" flooding.

Watauga Lake Winery offers parking for attendees of the Copperhead Road Landmark Unveiling and Music Fest; however, we suggest you carpool with your group.
Please leave your pets comfortably at home for this event. Absolutely no outside food, beverages, or coolers will be permitted on the premises. Ticket holders will be ID'd at the door. Must be 21 years of age or older to consume wine. We encourage responsible alcohol consumption at this venue.
